Why?
The project started in September 2003 through the vision of Stocksbridge man, Mr David Goodison.
We have quickly gained support and involvement from individuals; local authorities; community groups; businesses and our local MP.
Just For You
The outline of the project is to develop the rail link between Deepcar and Sheffield by development of the line and its stations and to set up and manage a reliable
commuter and tourist service into Sheffield.
Following discussions with various agencies DVR Ltd will run a commuter service directly into the heart of Sheffield,
thus providing a link with the Supertram Network, buses and coaches via Sheffield's
Transport Interchanges and
rail links to further locations.
Park and Ride schemes will be set up at as many stations as possible.
The quality commuter rail service will take pressure off the road links from the area into Sheffield.
Learn
Engineering workshops at Deepcar Station will provide an opportunity for young engineering students and enthusiasts
to gain practical experience. Employment and training opportunities will arise within this well managed not-for-profit limited company with charitable status.
Relax and Enjoy
The establishment of a living museum in Deepcar or Stocksbridge will be centred on the history of steel
making in the valley and provide a local visitor attraction.
The attraction of running steam trains at weekends and bank holidays will enhance the local area's tourism
and we will work with other agencies to develop tourist trails and enhance the area's tourism
Prosperity
The Don Valley Railway Project will encourage interest and investment along the railway corridor and
aid the regeneration of the Stocksbridge & Deepcar Upper Don Valley. In the future it could be
possible to extend the line into Penistone.
